Part I: Introduction to Daisy and Her Detestation of Rain
Once upon a time, near a sparkling pond, lived a little cheery duck named Daisy. The bright blue sky with white fluffy clouds passing by was what made her the happiest creature in the world.
There was nothing that pleased her more than to stretch out on her comfortable spot by the pond while the sun’s warmth tickled her feathers. Her favorite pastime was watching the clouds drift by and change shapes as Daisy imagined all the fun things they could be.
She abominated, however, in the rain. Cold, messy, and just plain nuisance, that’s what it was to her. Daisy would quickly pull under the big, old oak tree near the pond or scurry back to her nest when the first drops started falling.
“Rain just isn’t for me,” she’d mutter, pulling her feathers tight around herself to keep warm. She enjoyed frolicking in the pond, but only when the sun was warm, and its water was also warm.
Daisy had three wonderful friends who never seemed to mind the rain a bit. To Oliver, the owl, falling raindrops plop gently upon his feathers like heaven. Bella, the bunny, believed that the greatest fun one could have was when running through puddles.
Sam the squirrel liked to skitter about in the wet grass, leaving little trails with his fluffy tail. They all tried to recount to Daisy how beautiful fun rain could be, but she shook her head and said, “Not for me, thanks!“
Daisy was such a curious little duck, always looking for fun, but trying new things—especially things she didn’t like, such as the rain—was a bit of a step back for her.
Even though she loved her friends and wanted to join them, she couldn’t understand why anyone would want to go through such a drippy, cold event.
Would Daisy ever find out what made rainy days special? Only time will tell!
Part 2: The Rainy Day
One rainy morning, Daisy woke up to the pattern of raindrops on her nest. She spread out her wings, yawned, and looked out into a gray sky covered by gray clouds. Puddles dotted the earth around the pond, and it seemed cold and damp outside.
“Oh dear,” she murmured, snuggling deeper into her nest, “it’s just not a day for being outdoors.”. As Daisy settled, she heard happy sounds drifting over from the pond.
She looked out to her surprise to see her pals splashing and playing in the rain, their laughter echoing across the water. Here was Oliver the owl, sited on a low-lying branch, letting the drops drip off his wings.
Bella, the bunny, was hopping around from puddle to puddle, making little splashes with her small feet. Sam, the squirrel, was zipping through the wet grass, his tail streaming behind him like a little flag.
“Daisy!” they called out to her. “Come and join us! It’s so much fun!”
Daisy hesitated, pulling her head back inside her cozy nest. She shook her head, muttering to herself, “The rain isn’t for me. It’s too cold and too wet.” But as she watched her friends enjoying themselves, a tiny tug came to her heart.
Her friends saw her peeking out and waddled over to her nest. “Come on, Daisy!” said Bella with a bright smile. “You’re missing all the fun!”
Oliver hooted softly, “It’s really not as bad as you think, Daisy. Once you’re out here, you might like it.”
Sam gave an encouraging nod, flicking his tail. “Just give it a try. We’ll be with you the whole time!”
Daisy’s feathers ruffled with excitement and nervousness. Perhaps. Just perhaps. Would it be okay to give it a shot this one time?
Part 3: Daisy Steps Outside
Taking a deep breath, Daisy finally stepped out from the cozy warmth of her nest into the gentle drizzle. The first cool raindrop landed on her soft feathers, and she gave a little shiver.
It was strange and a bit chilly but… not exactly unpleasant. In fact, there was a tiny thrill in feeling the raindrop trickle down her wing.

The moment Daisy shuffled a bit further, she caught the soft patter of raindrops on her head. The rain was not as harsh as she had anticipated; it felt almost like a gentle tap-tap and made her feathers tingle.
She paused to take deep breaths and was surprised by the freshness and the earthy smell of the rain; the whole world now felt different- calmer, cleaner, and exciting.
Her friends still played by the pond, their happy laughter echoing through the air. With every step she took, curiosity grew in Daisy. Bella darted right over a big puddle, sending droplets flying everywhere.
Oliver spread out his wings to catch even more of the rain and hooted triumphantly as he shook off the water, dribbling down his back, and Sam was making little splashy circles in the mud with his tail.
She cocked her head to the side, wondering. Maybe this rain wasn’t so bad after all. A few more steps, and she was close enough now to see herself in the puddle below. She flicked her wing and made a small splash, sending the water rippling outward.
Her friends encouraged her, and warmth slowly began to build within her that came mixed with the excitement of this new. Maybe. She could have some fun in the rain, too.
Part 4: The Puddle Fun
Daisy stood at the edge of a big, shiny puddle, where her friends were leaping and splashing with great glee. She was thrilled; however, still somewhat nervous.
Taking a deep breath, she lifted one foot slowly to dip it into the puddle. A tiny splash popped up and splashed a few droplets onto her beak. She blinked in surprise. and a little delight!
Emboldened, Daisy let both her feet off and hopped into the puddle. But this time, she felt a significantly larger splat splash and couldn’t help but giggle as droplets sprayed around her.
The cool droplets sparkled through the air, and for the first time, Daisy really felt what it was like to play in the rain.

Her friends cheered as they watched her hopping and splashing with growing excitement. “Way to go, Daisy!” squeaked Bella, bouncing alongside. “Try jumping up a little higher—you’ll splash an even bigger splash!”
Oliver fluffed out his feathers proudly. “Yes, yes! The more I jump, the more splash I make!” he hooted.
Sam demonstrated – jumped through a puddle of water with a great big leap, splashing it all around. Daisy’s eyes sparkled with excitement. She followed his example, hopped with all her might, and to her surprise, water splashed all around her, wetting her feathers, which made her laugh out loud.
It wasn’t long till Daisy leaped, flapped and laughed with bigger splashes. Splashing about each time she took a jump was fun, but she never realized how much fun she had been missing all along.
The rain felt refreshing and joyful, and with friends, she braved it more than ever before. This rainy day became one of the best she ever had.
Part 5: A Surprise in the Rain
The girls splashed and played until it began to only drizzle, and the rain even started slowing down. Across the pond came the soft glow of light.
“Oh, look.” she exclaimed, her eyes marveling as she stared over her shoulder. There arched across the sky lay the beautiful shimmering rainbow, its colors bright against the gray cloud.
Just then, Daisy’s pals stopped splashing puddles of water, equally arrested by the view. “It’s so lovely!” Bella breathed, her little nose quivering with delight. Oliver nodded wisely, his eyes reflecting the colors. “Rain can bring surprises like this,” he hooted softly.
But now, seeing this rainbow, she felt that rain could bring joy and beauty, too. Actually, without the rain, there would be no puddles, no splashes, and no rainbows. The rainbow’s beauty amazed Daisy.
A warm feeling spread within her as she saw the rainbow in the water. She had always thought of the rainy weather as something cold and gloomy, and avoidance was its absolute match.
A great big smile came upon Daisy’s face. She glanced around at her friends, the water still dripping off them from all the splashing; she felt a spark of excitement and proclaimed gleefully, “You’re right! The rain’s not so bad after all. A whole new way to have fun!
As they stood there together, looking at the rainbow and the puddles dancing around them, Daisy realized she was dreading the night when the rain would stop.
She could not wait to leap into more puddles and splash around with her friends to spot another magical rainbow.
Part 6: Conclusion and Lesson
As the last of the raindrops formed and the rainbow finally began to dissipate, Daisy came waddling over to her friends. Their eyes held a happy glint as she shook out her feathers, and the leftover droplets scattered around her as she breathed out a happy sigh.
“Thanks, everyone,” she quacked warmly toward Bella, Oliver, and Sam. “I never knew what I was missing by staying indoors when the rain came. Thanks again for encouraging me to let go and come out under the rain.”
Her heart was full of fun things she had done while enjoying splashing, laughing, and seeing the beautiful rainbow in the sky.
Bella nudged her gently. “We are glad you joined us, Daisy! Rainy days aren’t the same without you.”
Oliver hooted in agreement, flapping his wings. “Sometimes trying new things leads to the best surprises!”
Then Daisy smiled to herself, acknowledging how true those words were. While rain was something to be shunned, now it was beginning to be enjoyed and excited over.
Future rainy days now held a new thrill: puddles to jump in, fun to be shared, and who knows, maybe even more rainbows to admire!
With a happy heart, Daisy realized that this was a very important thing she had discovered that day: sometimes, things we detest bring the most wonderful surprises. She couldn’t wait for the next rainy day to come.
