Part 1: Introduction-Meet Little Cloud

Across the wide, bright blue sky, a great big white cloud named Little Cloud floated along. Little Cloud loved floating high above, looking down at the green fields, winding rivers, and tiny animals below.

Being a cloud was the best thing in the world, especially on sunny days when it could dance with the wind, twisting and turning in gentle swirls.

And apart from those, Little Cloud had other buddies. There was Big Cloud, who spent an eternity wandering across the sky. Big Cloud’s words were always soft, and his advice was gentle even when Little Cloud was silly and playing about.

Then there was Sunbeam- a friendly sunbeam that popped out between the clouds to warm Little Cloud’s fringes and make Little Cloud feel comfortable. Then there were the Raindrops. The Raindrops was puffy, downy, and always on hand, ready to swell into Little Cloud at the right moment.

But Little Cloud had a secret: whereas all the other clouds moved and changed, some of them moving into action to become raindrops to travel down to earth, Little Cloud wanted it otherwise. Little Cloud wanted to remain forever in the sky, not drift away, not change.

“I love it up here,” thought Little Cloud, looking over the edge to peer down at the earth far below. “If I change into little drops of rain, I may disappear. What if I can’t find my way back up again?”

Thus, little clouds drifted about happily day after day, clasping closely onto its hopeful wish. She stayed quite close to the big cloud but played where she could in the warming sunbeams of bright sunbeams, all the while keeping to herself such an important secret dream within.

Part 2: Little Cloud’s Want

It was a wind-whispered afternoon when a little cloud floated very slowly without any care, just indulging in all the other clouds around it floating, drifting, and disappearing gradually. Slowly, one by one, those clouds softened and elongated themselves, transforming into tiny glittering raindrops that fell to the ground and later became parts of rivers or lakes or flowers.

Little Cloud shook with fear. “They are all disappearing!” it cried out as it watched its friends take on shapes. But Little Cloud didn’t want to change into raindrops. It dreaded ending up curled at the edges. Little Cloud did not want to leave the bright blue sky or the soft, endless breeze.

Little Cloud sighed softly to herself, curling up tight and puffy as a ball. “I wish I could stay here, up high in the sky,” she murmured. She was safe and sound from harm in her lofty view of things.

Just then, a sunbeam pushed out from behind a cloud and warmly bathed Little Cloud in a big, golden glow. “Little Cloud,” she said softly, “what’s worrying you? Don’t you want to rain like the rest of the clouds?”

Little Cloud shivered a little. “But, Sunbeam, supposing I’m gone for good? I like being a cloud so much– floating and frolicking up here with you and Big Cloud. I don’t want to let go. What if I cannot get back?

Sunbeam smiled warmly, and its rays hopped playfully over Little Cloud’s white, puffy surface. “Oh, Little Cloud, letting go can be a beautiful journey! You’ll bring joy and life to everything below. The flowers will bloom, rivers will flow, and little animals will drink from puddles. And even though you change, a part of you will always find its way back to the sky.”.
And little cloud clung tight to the cirrus around it, shivering and frightened. Too afraid yet to let it go

Part 3: The Words of Old Big Cloud

As Little Cloud floated about, still engulfed in anxiety, Big Cloud came floating over a big, soft shape with a nice dark shadow.

“Good morning, Little Cloud,” said old Big Cloud low and gently. “Ah, I see you must be puzzled about something quite serious.”

Little Cloud looked up at Big Cloud with a slightly shy look in his eyes. “Big Cloud, I’m afraid of falling. I don’t want that to happen Big Cloud. I don’t want to be blown away and never return again.”.

Deep, big Cloud laughed low, and its mouth cracks shook with good. “Oh, Little Cloud,” it began, “there’s no reason to be scared. Melting into raindrops doesn’t mean we quit; it’s the way we’ve always lived. When we let go and melt, becoming little raindrops, we help the world down below.”

Little Cloud listened very intently as its interest grew, though it was still fearful.
You see when we become droplets of rain, we let the flowers grow big and bright. We fill up the rivers so the animals can drink and puddles for little ones to play in. Can you imagine how content everybody is when those rain clouds roll in?” Big Cloud laughed.

The little Cloud thought upon it, envisioning green fields and smiling flowers while the soaking rain penetrated them. It was a breathtaking view, yet a worry did not cease.

“But Big Cloud…” Little Cloud whispered, the voice barely more than a breeze. “What if I disappear forever? What if I’m not even a cloud anymore?”

The Great Cloud approached closer, soft edges lightly touching little Cloud. “Don’t think you will never be missed, Little Cloud. No, no one is going. You just don’t forget where you were. A cloud, the river says, gets in the blossoms. Someday there’ll be streams of tiny clouds drifting low over you again and little clouds making rain fall when you walk in the hills or sit among the ferns. One day they’ll be whole again; even now rivers, flowers, skies will always love a cloud.”

Little Cloud felt a warmth in its insides; the words said by Big Cloud seemed to wrap its heart with its words. Being special seemed such an attractive idea, but little clouds remained unsure about that. As the tender tugs of a little fragile string held it still, yet still wouldn’t let go.

Part 4 Little Cloud’s Big Decision

It grew darker one day, and the blue from the sky turned out to be grey. Little Cloud looked around for other clouds that were drifting by their edges softened into sparkling raindrops.

The clouds were dripping everywhere and forming a series of tiny droplets, dazzling and floating to the ground. Little Cloud felt a flutter within itself. It knew its time was coming, too.

Oh dear, oh dear,” gasped little Cloud, clutching to the sky as tight as it ever could hug it. Its woolly edge quivered with fear. It wanted to linger on in those high regions up there within that vast vaulting boundless expanse of space but, for some reason, felt persuaded that it had to move on off to join the rest.

And then came the gentle urging of Little Cloud. Soft, twinkling Raindrops gather close, whispering low in kind, sweet voices. “Don’t worry, Little Cloud,” they said softly, “we’re right here with you. We’ll go together, and it will be wonderful.”

Little Cloud looked down at the earth so far below. It imagined the flowers and rivers and animals Big Cloud had spoken of. It could almost feel the little flowers reaching up, their petals thirsting for a cool drink, and the animals eagerly watching for fresh water.

Little Cloud takes a deep breath and whispers to herself, “Perhaps. Perhaps Big Cloud is right. Letting go is not the end but just the beginning.”

Giving one last look up to the sky, Little Cloud softened at the edges and dripped off into tiny drops. She released her fright and breathed softly goodbye to the sky, trusting that it was part of something beautiful.

And so, thinking of that, Little Cloud started his soft glide all the way down to Earth, surrounded by shining Raindrops, prepared to find out what was below.

Part 5 Uncover a new form.

As Little Cloud began to drift low, it came tiny little raindrops and felt something magic. There was a lightness, freedom she had never known before.

No longer fluffy cloud stuff, but gentle rain, dropping softly through the skies. Little Cloud enjoyed a tickling joy at tumbling and spinning within each sparkling drop.

rain

Oh! Little Cloud exclaimed to himself, astonished at the beauty of it to be raining, “I haven’t disappeared after all! Here I am, just. different!”

The drops continued on their way; as they struck the earth, Little Cloud began to view things from close quarters. It caught a glance right down at a river that curved between green hills and caught each drop as it merged with a delighted splash.

It felt itself pouring out with the river as it moved along cheerfully, knowing it was part of something far more enormous and pretty.

In a meadow nearby, the rain of Little Cloud fell sweetly, brightened the flowers, and made their petals shine fresh. Flowers swayed with delight as they drank cool water brought forth by Little Cloud. Little Cloud felt so happy; its raindrops were helping the flowers grow big and strong.

Then Little Cloud noticed animals gathering around a puddle collected in the tender soil. Little birds came to get their beaks into it to drink, a playing puppy splashed his paws in the water, and a little bunny passed there to take a sip of water.

Each creature seemed grateful and happy, whereas Little Cloud realized that they were happy because of the happiness he brought to them, as Big Cloud promised.

And in another park, the children ran laughing and leaping through puddles, sending drops flying into the air. This little Cloud experienced their happy laughter and warmth even better by floating in the sky.

Little Cloud had not disappeared; little Cloud had changed, though. It was everywhere rivers and flowers, puddles, and children’s laughter. Here, it found its new kind of life: joyfully scattering life. And so, at this very moment, the little Cloud learned that letting go as well is beautiful.

Moral

“Sometimes letting go is an act of far greater power than defending or holding on.”
– Eckhart Tolle

Sometimes, letting go can be such a beautiful thing. In letting go, sometimes, it finds other ways of bringing in joy and being part of something wonderful.

Conclusion

As the last drops of Little Cloud’s rain fell into rivers, puddles, and flowers, it felt, to its relief, a deep sense of peaceful calm. Now Little Cloud saw that letting go did not mean it disappeared but rather changed and became part of the world in ways it had not had any idea was possible.

Everywhere Little Cloud looked, it could behold the beauty and joy that it had helped to create. The flowers that it fed bloomed cheerfully and painted the fields with colour. Rivers shimmered as they flowed, carrying Little Cloud’s raindrops to new destinations. Animals drank and played, refreshed and full of glee, while children laughed as they frolicked in puddles.

Little Cloud smiled, this being something much bigger than herself. It was pretty. He would let go of that one and, letting go, allowed the joy of others upon it. He is here in every drop, each bloom, each splash, and Little Cloud knows she’ll always be part of the sky, the earth, and the laughter born of her existence.
